Smart Introduces Car2Go

If you’ve ever been to Philadelphia or Manhattan, you’ve probably noticed Philly Car Share or ZipCar vehicles buzzing around the city. In Germany, Smart is being used as a test subject for a new car share industry, which can be accessed with a simple phone call.

Car2Go is a service similar to that of Philly’s Car Share. Vehicles are parked throughout an urban area in reserved spots. The renter signs up for a one-time registration where they can save their driver’s license info, credit or debit numbers online. Now all they have to do in order to rent a car is call and find the closest Smart car to their location. Their account is billed $0.19 a minute for their ride (other services charge by mile). You access the vehicle with a pin that can be transmitted through your cell phone.
